How to split group trip costs fairly
Someone always fronts the house, someone else grabs dinner, and by day three nobody knows who owes who. Here's the clean way to split it — and settle up in the fewest payments.
- Put one card on the shared stuff. Have a single person front the house, the boat, and group dinners. Chasing six separate checks all weekend is where splitting goes sideways.
- Log every shared expense as it happens. Drop each shared cost into the splitter the moment it hits — who paid, how much, and who it covers. Memory is not a receipt.
- Split evenly or by share. Most things split evenly. When they shouldn't (the couple in the master suite, the two who skipped the boat), assign the expense to just those people.
